The invitation to go camping had been a surprise to Megan. When Brice had asked at dinner she had hesitated. Brice had taken that to mean she didn’t want to go and had instantly started to apologize. “I’m sorry,” he said. “It’s too soon. Of course. I should have known.”

Horrified that he had gotten the wrong impression, Megan had quickly assured him that she had merely been surprised but that she would love to go. They had made the arrangements and Megan felt like she was walking on air. Thankfully, she had considered that she would like to take vacations and of course, emergencies do happen, mostly since she had acquired Lucy, so Megan felt exceedingly grateful that she had the forethought to hire a wonderful college student who was willing to work occasional weekends and some weekdays should Megan need her. In fact, she had already worked the Saturday Megan had met Gabby in the park and had done wonderfully.

Their dinner had been sexually charged and Megan didn’t taste anything she ate. Rushing back, they had just arrived at Megan’s door when Brice received an urgent call. A colleague’s daughter had been in an accident.

After he hung up Brice pulled her towards him, his forehead resting against hers. “I don’t want to leave,” he whispered, his frustration evident. “It appears something is always pulling me from you when all I want to do is be with you.”

“I know, Brice. I feel the same way.”

Pulling back, he stared deeply into her eyes. “I love everything about you, Megan. I love your intelligence, your humor, your kindness. I love that you love family as much as I do. The whole incredible package,” he finished, leaning in to kiss her cheek gently.

She could see that Brice was torn, but Megan knew that the right thing was to send him on his way. “You’d better go,” she said, “I know they need you right now. Plus, I get to see you tomorrow night. But first,” she whispered, pulling him towards her, “let me leave you with this.” She brought his head down, kissing him passionately.
